If you are afraid of being left in the dark this winter or in the months to come, we offer battery backup systems that will ensure you don’t experience any down-time in your home or at the office. Battery back-up systems will ensure your telecommunications and electrical devices are up-and-running at all times even when the electricity goes off.

What is an Off Grid System

An off-grid solar system is not connected to the electricity grid and requires battery storage. Off-grid solar systems must be designed correctly in order to generate enough power throughout the year and have the necessary battery capacity to meet the installed locations electrical energy requirements or demand.

In Africa, we are very fortunate with abundant sunshine. A backup generator or alternative back up power source may be necessary to supplement your electrical demand and recharge the batteries during times when the batteries are inadequately charged due to very bad weather patches or other unforeseen circumstances. We recommend that the size of the backup power source should be adequate to supply energy to your house and charge your batteries at the same time.


Generally,  off-grid solar system sizing or specifications are based on your daily wattage usage and peak Wh requirement. Daily watt-hour usage can normally be calculated from your utility bill over a time-period but may require more accurate usage pattern monitoring with energy metering data loggers.


Here is a list of nine interesting facts when choosing battery backup systems:

  1. Your backup system should be silent, fume-free plus there should be no need for a generator.
  2. Your battery backup system needs an automatic, easy switch over when the lights go out.
  3. You should be able, with ease, to run any appliance from your battery backup system provided it is within the power rating of that particular unit.
  4. Once the power is restored the units will automatically be recharged.
  5. An interesting perk is that these units are completely mobile which means you will be able to take your battery backup system wherever you go – on holiday, camping, in your caravan etc.
  6. Your battery backup system will be equipped with a low battery warning which will give you sufficient time to save and back up your work on your PC and to safely shut your device down.
  7. Your battery backup system will have an automatic overload protection which will re-connect once the overload is corrected.
  8. Home applications include gate motors, TV as well as satellite decoders, computers, garage door motors, computer hubs, routers as well as other delicate computer equipment, lights and more.
  9. With a battery backup system you will be able to watch your favourite TV programme for hours on end.


Standard battery backup systems are able to power your TV, computer and a couple of lights – if your battery backup system is not adequate you will be able to add more power onto the unit to increase the power.
